Optimality gaps in asymptotic dimensioning of many-server systems

چکیده
The Quality-and-Efficiency-Driven (QED) regime provides a basis for solving asymptotic dimensioning problems that trade off revenue, costs and service quality. We derive bounds for the optimality gaps that capture the differences between the true optimum and the asymptotic optimum based on the QED approximations. Our bounds generalize earlier results for classical many-server systems. We also apply our bounds to a manyserver system with threshold control.

Scaled control in the QED regime
We develop many-server asymptotics in the Quality-and-Efficiency-Driven (QED) regime for models with admission control. The admission control, designed to reduce the incoming traffic in periods of congestion, scales with the size of the system. For a class of Markovian models with this scaled control, we identify the QED limits for two stationary performance measures. We also derive corrected Q...
متن کاملDynamic Control of N-Systems with Many Servers: Asymptotic Optimality of a Static Priority Policy in Heavy Traffic
We consider a class of parallel server systems that are known as N-systems. In an N-system, there are two customer classes that are catered by servers in two pools. Servers in one of the pools are cross-trained and can serve customers from both classes whereas all the servers in the other pool can only serve one of the customer classes. A customer reneges from his queue if his waiting time in t...
متن کاملOn Optimality Gaps in the Halfin–whitt Regime by Baris Ata
We consider optimal control of a multi-class queue in the Halfin–Whitt regime, and revisit the notion of asymptotic optimality and the associated optimality gaps. The existing results in the literature for such systems provide asymptotically optimal controls with optimality gaps of o( √ n) where n is the system size, for example, the number of servers. We construct a sequence of asymptotically ...
متن کاملOn the Minimax Optimality of Block Thresholded Wavelets Estimators for ?-Mixing Process
We propose a wavelet based regression function estimator for the estimation of the regression function for a sequence of ?-missing random variables with a common one-dimensional probability density function. Some asymptotic properties of the proposed estimator based on block thresholding are investigated. It is found that the estimators achieve optimal minimax convergence rates over large class...
متن کاملScheduling Parallel Servers in the Nondegenerate Slowdown Diffusion Regime: Asymptotic Optimality Results1 by Rami Atar
We consider the problem of minimizing queue-length costs in a system with heterogenous parallel servers, operating in a many-server heavy-traffic regime with nondegenerate slowdown. This regime is distinct from the wellstudied heavy traffic diffusion regimes, namely the (single server) conventional regime and the (many-server) Halfin–Whitt regime. It has the distinguishing property that waiting...
